I currently have a paid WOW membership that will expire sometime around the full launch of STO, so since I don't think I can afford to play both at once, I throw out the question, if you had to choose one and just one, which one would it be?

To be honest, I'd choose WoW for another month or two if I could only afford one because it will allow time for the major bugs to be ironed out.

I'd go with Star Trek Online. At this point, World of Warcrack has just gotten a bit stale. There's not any replay value in the game whatsoever anymore. Its time on top is probably drawing to a close because it's so outdated technologically and has hit a dead end with storytelling.
Depends, honestly. If you like the story, depth, and humor of a game: go with WoW and stay with it for a while. If you like combat, combat, and more combat: Go with STO. Sorry for being brutally honest, but it's true.
The crafting system Cryptic tried making for the game is a blasphemous joke to all RPG crafters, the stories are too shallow and uninteresting (only maybe on in every 10 or so missions is even interesting enough to get into), and there's really not much else. I love the Fluff stuff in MMORPGs, and save for a Tribble, there's almost none of that in Star Trek Online (can't even change cloths even though they did many, many times throughout the series and movies).
The thing that STO has going for it, though, it the ship combat, which for PvP is semi-fast paced and exciting and fun. The ground combat is "meh" as it seems to be no different than any other MMO's combat out there.
I like STO right now because it's something new and different, I'm also a fan of Star Trek. On the other hand I fear in teh long run it might be a bit shallow but time will tell I suppose. I'm really enjoying it for now anyways.
Are you still actively interested in what you are doing on WoW? If so, I'd stick with it at least until the 45-day patch is in STO. If WoW is getting thin, then do STO for a change of pace but until the upcoming patches are in don't expect it to offer longterm gaming.
